This is one of the most popular and spectacular ancient monuments in Goa that attracts huge numbers of tourists from near and far off places. This prominent landmark located in the old Goa region has been innumerably mentioned in travel broachers and magazines related to Goa tourism. This tower goes up to a height of 46 metres.
The St Augustine’s tower is part of the St Augustine church which comprised of four such towers. The tower is enormously high and was initially built up using laterite rock. This four storied colossal structure is the main tourist attraction of the old Goa. The St Augustine church was built long back in the year 1602 by an Italian architect whose style has lived for time immemorial in the form of this massive structure.
What remains today is just half of this sky reaching tower which is visited by history lovers from all parts of India as well as abroad. The St Augustine’s tower is still remnant of the giant and one of the most humungous monuments in Goa, i.e. the Augustinian Monastery. We clicked a lot of pictures and returned back to our hotel eager to explore more of the gems embedded in this beautiful historically rich state.
