The next place which I decided to visit was the himachal state museum of Shimla. This museum is located inside an old Victorian house which is carefully designed to house the museum inside it. The museum which is perched on top of the lonely hill top which is known as the Inveram, is one of the most famous sites in Shimla.

The museum is visted by many tourists both local and national daily for its amazing collection of arts and artefacts of the state of Himachal Pradesh. The view of the mountains along with the solitude of the place makes this location even more worth visiting if you are in Shimla.

There are different galleries and sections inside the museum which has stored different collections of arts and artefacts. There is an archaeology section which has collection of memorable items from historic to pre historic ages collected. The best part of the museum is that it not only has collection regarding the Himachal State but also of the Indian and other north Indian states. The best section in the museum is the Pahari miniature paintings and the rajasthan paintings which has history and dates back to the mughal times and Rajasthani heritage.

There are many wall paintings in the museum too which depicts the various lifestyles of the hilly state of India since ancient times. The paintings are also done of the various gods and goddesses of the state which are revered by people since age old times. The museum has preserved these paintings very well. The wood carvings too need special mention. These wood carvings are said to be very old and very minutely made and till now they are in excellent shape and size.

The numismatics section of the museum has a very rich collection of coins of the ancient times and also the jewellery section needs a special mention. This place should be visited by everyone who visits Shimla and wants to know more about the Himachal state of India.

The next place that I decided to visit was Tara Devi temple of Shimla.

After my visit to the Jakhoo temple in Shimla, the next place which I decided to visit was the State museum of Shimla. The Shimla State museum is known for its rich collection of amazing paintings, sculptures, coin collections, handicrafts collection and photographs of not just the state of Himachal Pradesh but outside the state too. The museum is one of the prominent attractions in the Mall area of Shimla. It has an architecture similar to colonial edifice with the sprawling lawns all around it. The museum was inaugurated in the year 1974.

The museum is open for the general public on all the days except for Mondays from 10 Am to 5 PM. It also has a wonderful library which is equipped with many historical and interesting books on the state of Himachal Pradesh along with a host of manuscripts. The purpose for which this museum was erected was to preserve this cultural heritage and legacy of the state of Himachal Pradesh and also to disseminate this knowledge and culture across the generations of state.
The museum on a daily basis is visited by many tourists who come with their children and other kids. This place is must for all the kids who are interested to know about the history of Himachal Pradesh. The paintings inside the museum depict the lives of the people living in the hills. There is also a large collection of the Mughal paintings and artefacts from Rajasthani culture. There is also a wide display of the Himachali dolls in the museum.

Jakhoo Temple: The Monkey Land

After the amazing trip to the beautiful Christ Church of Shimla, the next place that I decided to visit was the Jakhoo Temple. Jakhoo Temple is about 3 km to the east of the Christ Church of Shimla and situated at a height of about 2500 m above the sea level and is also considered the highest peak in Shimla. The way to reach the temple is a steep which you need to follow that is ever ascending and will take you directly to the temple easily than you imagined.

The way up to the temple was full of monkeys. Everywhere you turn your eyes you could see the monkeys standing waiting to grab something from your hands. The day I went to the Jakhoo temple it was sunny and the weather was perfect to take a climb. I walked too much that day. All along the beautiful path I saw the lovely mountain houses and the beautiful and magnificent deodar tress that decorated the way.

There were Monkeys as i told all along the way to Jakhoo Temple. Some were sitting on the trees while most were sitting under the thick clumps of the leaves and enjoying the lovely weather of the day. When I reached the entrance of the temple there were more monkeys waiting. The main temple is small and not very huge as I expected it to be. The temple is very crowded during the Dassera. The temple is of Lord Hanuman and so no doubt it is guarded by troops of monkeys everywhere.

The monkeys are mostly peaceful in the temple but few of them are very notorious. I saw a monkey who jumped on a fellow visitor and took out the biscuit packet from his bag and ran away. This was both funny and also scary because no one can say anything to the monkeys here it was their world so no one would like to play nasty with them. The Lord Hanuman statue at the Jakhoo Temple was very beautiful nevertheless. More than Gods this temple is known for the monkeys!
After the visit to Jakhoo temple, the next place that I visited was the Shimla State Museum.

Christ Church Shimla - The Magnificent Man Made Structure

The first place that I went to visit after having a wonderful lunch at my hotel was the Christ Church of Shimla. Christ Church is the second largest church in Northern India. The church is considered as the most popular tourist destination of Shimla and the most recognised tourist place in terms of the number of visitors daily.

The church was designed in the year 1884 by Colonel J. T. Boileau and by the year 1857 it was ready. Shimla used to be the summer capital of British India and that time this church served the large Christian Anglican community of British.

The church has seen many generations come and go during its lifetime and also the best part of the church is that it has survived many changes. The architecture of the church is exotic. I have seen many churches both in my hometown and other parts of the country but this church stand out. The interior of the church is very amazing and beautiful too. The sanctum of the church was very peaceful even when there was so much noise and crown outside it.

The inside of the church is more or less plain with except for the five stained glass windows that adorns the church on its eastern side. There were many tourists in church when I visited it. I took some of the finest pictures from my camera because I knew I will always remember this place throughout my life. The windows of the church represented the different values of Christianity like Hope, Faith, Charity, Fortitude, Patience and Humility.
The church should be visited by everyone who happens to visit Shimla at anytime of their life. This is one of those places which will make you fall in love with its beauty at the first sight only. The architectural magnificence of the church combined with landscape of Shimla gives Christ Church a perfect place to start my Shimla excursion. The church is opened from Monday to Saturaday for the general public at 10:30 AM to 5 PM.

After this wonderful trip to the Christ Church, the next place visited by me was the Jakhoo Temple of Shimla.

Hello all. After a long time I am writing a blog to share my travel experience lately. This month I finally got some time off from my busy schedule so I decided to make most of it by planning a travel to some part of the country which I haven’t visited.

It was quite hot at my side of the world in the month of April, so I planned to go to some place which will be quite cool and no better hill station in India than Shimla for a cool holiday. For this purpose i had booked flight from Bangalore to Chandigarh. The flight which was booked was in the Air Asia Airlines.

The flight from Bangalore to Chandigarh was a one stop flight. It took about 3:30 hours. I had reached the airport much earlier as the flight was scheduled in the morning. I reached airport about an hour or so early to complete the check in formalities and for my boarding pass. This was my first experience of an Air Asia Airlines. The flight took off on time. The staff was quite helpful and the services inside the aircraft were quite amazing. I also liked the in flight entertainment system. The movies and songs didn’t bore me and there was also the excitement of reaching Shimla as soon as possible.

The flight landed in Chandigarh on time and from there I had already booked a taxi straight to Shimla. I had got a taxi booked at reasonable price using the Shimla flight hotels best deals. The distance between Shimla and Chandigarh by road is about 120 kilometres which can be covered in 3:30 hours. The journey from Chandigarh to Shimla by taxi was one of the best rides I had in recent times. The view of mountains and the valleys was simply breathtaking.

The view of snowy mountains was enough to excite a city living girl like me. The excitement was in its full swing and I was eager to reach the capital of Himachal as early. I reached Shimla after 4 hours of an amazing taxi ride and went straight to my hotel which I had booked in advance. It was the Mahindra Club Resort in Shimla.
